The last of September brought a little taste of winter, but
October has come in with glorious fall weather.

The kids are back in school, and Mother has become an avid
television fan. The commercials fascinate her. She decided to test
out some of the products that promised to make everyday chores a
real joy.

Maybe by using them she might get attention from Dad and the
kids that she’d like to have. They finally might commend her for
her excellent homemaking.

The highly advertised laundry product that when used practically
guarantees the family will sit up and take notice. Towels will be
softer and sweet-smelling. Dad’s shirts, according to the tube,
would be the whitest he had ever seen. The children at camp would
write home and tell Mother how much they missed her sweet-smelling
towels, white clothes would be brilliant and colored things would
glow.

But Dad and the kids didn’t even mention anything about any
changes in the clothes or bedding.

Mother decided to try another highly advertised life-changing
product.

Zest soap promised marvelous results. She had in mind her son
when she purchased several bars. The ad promised to give vigor and
pep to the user. Son is a morning drag. Mother hoped the wonder
soap would get him out of bed, but found he had showered and gone
back to bed.

The cat was Mother’s next target. She expected the cherished
feline to relish the new cat food. The ad showed a cat who became a
show animal after eating the food. But Mr. Cat turned up his nose
at the new food and walked away.

The dog didn’t eat the brand of dog food that promised to give
him long life, sweet breath, good teeth and a glowing coat. Mother
was disappointed, she had really wanted to see the dog’s coat
glow.

She decided not to waste any more time and money of overrated TV
ads and just use her coupons to get the best and cheapest deal
possible.
