Souith Metro Rescue District and Castle Rock firefighters needed about an hour to bring a wind-driven brush fire under control Dec. 14. Crews extinguished the fire by 5:30 p.m.
A tweet from the district at midafternoon said the cause was unclear. It started on the northeast corner of U.S. Highway 85 and Chatridge Court.
Winds of at least 15 mph fanned the 24-acre fire. Castle Rock sent firefiughters to the scene. At one time, authorities issued a pre-evacuation order for the Chatfield Estates subdivision.
According to a tweet from South Metro Fire Rescue said crews will stay on scene the rest of the day taking care of hot spots. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The Colorado State Patrol office in Castle Rock tweeted a road closure along U.S. Highway 85 bewteen Chatridge and Titan roads because of the grass fire.
