VETERANS CITY CANOPY IS HELPING MAKE DENVER A GREENER CITY, BUT THERE’S PLENTY OF WORK AHEAD. This crew of homeless military veterans planted trees at DPS’ Brown International Academy as part of an initiative by Denver-based Veterans Green Jobs. Their goal is to plant 4,600 free shade trees in homeowners’ front yards by August 2012 as part of Denver’s Mile High Million program, part of Greenprint Denver, the city’s plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to 10 percent below 1990 levels by 2012. Whether Denver meets that goal – and whether it’s enough – is an open question.
