Colorado Gov. Jared Polis' announcement of a statewide mask requirement Thursday was met with swift criticism from Republican leaders -- including the top GOP member of the state House of Representatives

House Minority Leader Patrick Neville, R-Castle Rock, announced his intent to legally challenge the order within hours of Polis' announcement.

“The governor is on a power trip and (in my opinion) his mask mandate is a clear violation of our civil liberties. I’ve retained counsel with the intent to sue,” Neville posted on Twitter.

Neville was not immediately available for comment. When we hear from him, we'll update this story.

The mask requirement went into effect today for Coloradans older than 10. The order applies to public places like businesses or public transportation.

Some people are excluded from the order, including those who have a medical condition making masks intolerable.
