Letter to the editor: Gardner is unfit to serve

One would think by now that Sen. Cory Gardner would have admitted President Trump has been an abject failure in dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic. Asked by CNN for the second time in recent months whether he thought Trump was doing a good job managing the health crisis, Gardner snapped at the reporter: “I’m not going to play political pundit for you.” Really? Gardner’s undying loyalty to the president shows he is as unfit to represent Colorado in the Senate as Trump is to run the country.

While reports show the Trump administration still openly disdains science and is working to distort reality for political purposes, Gardner continues to stand beside Trump’s failed leadership. Instead of holding the president accountable for the early failures in the administration’s handling of the pandemic and demanding answers, Gardner has blamed China, the World Health Organization and even impeachment for the administration’s shortcomings.

Most Coloradans will make sure Gardner does not serve another term in the Senate. We will replace him with John Hickenlooper, who along with our new president, Joe Biden, will reverse the damage done by Trump and Republicans in Congress, not just related to the coronavirus but also with the economy, the environment and pretty much everything else.
