March certainly came in like a lion and is now at last going out like a lamb with respect to weather, but at Denver South High School things continue to roar as we enter April.
March finished with a terrific musical production of Seussical which featured the full depth of student artistic talent from set design and lighting to acting and singing. It was a great run with nearly sell-out performances fueled by our supportive community.
As for sports, winter athletes ended their seasons with strong finishes across the board only to have spring sports teams carry the baton into the new season. Girls soccer is looking fit and strong, boys swimming has been so far victorious, girls and boys lacrosse are looking sharp, girls tennis is doing well under new leadership and track and field participants are moving fast.
Right on the coattails of Suessical’s and the sports teams’ success comes the Denver South Dance Team’s upcoming family friendly performance featuring hip hop, contemporary, modern, jazz and other styles. This event will take place on Friday, April 8 at 7p.m. Tickets will be available at the door ($10.00 for adult, $5.00 for students).
As for extracurriculars, JROTC achieved outstanding results for their annual inspection with a score of 97.75 out of 100. This was a truly exceptional score and, in the words of Colonel Meek and Sergeant Major Blanton, “It makes Battalion no. 1 the best JROTC program with each cadet committed to doing their personal best on behalf of the unit.”
Next to last comes the official welcome of the class of 2020 to Denver South High School. All parents and their future Rebels who will be attending Denver South for the 2016-2017 school year are invited to Course Selection Night which will take place on Wednesday, April 13, from 6:30 to 8:00p.m. Please RSVP with Karen Duell, Community Liaison at Denver South High School. Email: karen_duell@dpsk12.org.
Lastly, getting the itch to travel to lands far away? Please consider joining the students at Denver South during the annual and free Culture Fest performance which takes place Friday, April 29 at 6:00p.m. in the auditorium. Students will represent the culture of their country of origin by performing traditional dances and singing songs from their native home. The event will share with the community what it is that makes Denver South High School such a special place.
